When my big “viral” post bombed…and why I’m glad it did

Hey Reader,

Last Friday, I posted what was supposed to be a high-engagement, lead-generating, viral post.

  • I followed the formulas.
  • I structured it the way the “growth hacks” say to.
  • I even included a CTA designed to drive engagement.

And… it completely flopped.

At first, I was frustrated.

But then, I realized something:

I didn’t trust myself.

I ignored my gut and followed a strategy that worked for someone else without reflecting on whether it felt right for me.

Specifically, I followed the playbook used by a bunch of young, white, hustle bros who think the only way to grow an audience and sell is through fake urgency, manufactured scarcity, and engagement-bait tactics.

That’s never been my style.

And the moment I stepped out of alignment with how I actually communicate, how I actually sell, and how I actually serve my audience?

The results reflected that.

And honestly? I’m glad it flopped.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m also a little embarrassed and disappointed. I really wanted to see a big influx of subscribers here!

Because it was a reminder of something I tell my own clients every damn day:

👉 Your intuition is one of the most powerful business tools you have.

But only if you actually listen to it.

Why Reflection (on Success AND Failure) Is Non-Negotiable

I could’ve just brushed this off as, “Oh well, that post didn’t work,” and moved on.

But reflection is one of the most important habits you can build as a business owner.

And it's why reflection is a core part of The Solo CEO methodology and experience.

Not just when things go wrong, but also when they go right.

Because both success and failure leave breadcrumbs.

Every marketing experiment, every launch, every piece of content you put out is a chance to learn:

  • What worked? (So you can do more of it.)
  • What flopped? (So you can refine and adjust.)
  • What felt good? (So you can lean into it even more.)
  • What felt off? (So you can stop forcing it.)

The biggest mistake I see solopreneurs make? They don’t take time to reflect.

I was like this for a LONG time. I thought that growth only came when you moved quickly. And boy, was I wrong.

I assumed that any strategy that works for someone else would work for me.

I assumed that any failure meant I should just work harder.

Or that it was a sign I was doomed for permanent struggle.

But business growth isn’t just about effort. It’s about alignment.

And the only way to find alignment is to pause, reflect, and trust your gut.

How This Applies to YOUR Business

I see solopreneurs making this mistake all the time:

They price their services based on what others charge instead of their true value.

They structure their offers based on what’s “standard” instead of what actually works for them.

They market themselves in ways that feel unnatural instead of leaning into their strengths.

And then they wonder why they’re struggling.

But when you stop chasing someone else’s definition of success?

When you stop forcing strategies that don’t feel like YOU?

When you take time to actually reflect on what works for YOU?

That’s when business gets so much easier.

Final Takeaway (And a Resource for You)

So here’s me, taking my own damn advice.

I’m re-centering.

I’m doubling down on what actually works for me.

And I’m here to help you do the same.

Hey Reader, For most of my life, I thought something was wrong with me. I’d start one project, get excited, and dive in headfirst. And usually, I'd kind of kill it—moving faster, innovating more, and achieving bigger wins than most of my peers. But then, almost without warning, I’d get bored and drop it. I had a million ideas but struggled to finish anything. I bounced between strategies, jobs, and businesses. Never quite sure if I was on the right path. For years, I thought this was just...

Why most entrepreneur coaching programs are total trash

Hey Reader, Most business coaching programs set you up to fail. I know because I have invested in a TON of them. I’ve taken the courses I’ve enrolled in the programs I’ve even hired the 1:1 coaches And while I’ve certainly learned a thing or two from each one, they ALL were extremely disappointing. And not worth the investment. Doesn’t matter if they were $2250 or $23,000. Every single one has been a big, fat disappointment. And a waste of money. Not because the people running them are bad or...

How to sell without selling — offer validation with zero pitching

Hey Reader, If you’re on this list, I’ll bet you find sales uncomfortable, pushy, or overwhelming. The mere thought of selling gives you hives because you associate it with icky sales tactics to convince someone to buy. And so you think, “I’ll just create LinkedIn content, and the leads will come to me.” (But then they don’t). Or that you decide to just take what you can get, accepting every referral no matter how little they pay or how misaligned the work. And so the feast-or-famine roller...
